PEME Scheme

Since its creation in September 2015, the club’s pre-employment medical examination (PEME) scheme has conducted over 12,500 examinations on behalf of club members. These examinations have been fundamental in the club’s efforts to reduce the toll of preventable illness claims. Previously, the scheme’s activities were limited to a network of 16 clinics in the Philippines. The recent expansion of the Standard Club PEME Scheme means that members and seafarers can now access enhanced PEME services in Indonesia, India and Ukraine. This expansion increases the number of clinics to over 40, in over 20 different locations.

Despite these exciting changes, the overriding principle of the Standard Club’s PEME scheme remains unchanged. Our scheme is focused on ensuring that members receive seafarers’ PEME certificates that they can trust and that preventable claims are kept to a minimum. Seafarers benefit from participation in the scheme by taking advantage of medical treatment/advice which can extend their careers, especially in the case of untreated chronic illness.

The Marine Advisory Medical Service (MAMS) administers the PEME scheme. MAMS is a medical organisation specifically for the maritime industry, with offices in Singapore, United Kingdom and Australia.
