Strike Alert: Cybercrime on the rise in Maritime sector

The Norwegian National Security Authority (NSM) has recently issued an update warning of the increased threat to Maritime operators from cyber-attacks, read more here. The NSM noted a rise in the sophistication and scope of attacks predominantly focusing on targets in the USA, Europe and the Middle East.

Emphasis was made that all ship types and shoreside infra-structure was vulnerable to such offensives, with attention being drawn to ship owners that operate in MARSEC level two areas as particular targets.

Owners are advised to refer to guidance published by the IMO stating best practice for maintaining cyber security and consider implementing procedures recommended in the update. Read guidance here.
